Overall Opinion:

I gave Garden Of Life Raw Organic Protein 1 out of 5 stars because I really don’t like it.

It’s unfortunate because it has some potential such as a being a viable option for vegans or those with dairy allergies.

But overall it had too many downsides.

One of my main problems is the taste.

It’s probably one of the worst protein powders I’ve ever tried (and I’ve tried countless!)

The Vanilla Chai flavor is disgusting, to the point where I had to spit it out on more than one occasion.

The flavor is grossly sweet then hits you with an overly spicy chai aftertaste.

Not only is the flavor bad but also the powder itself has a really nasty “grain” taste.

It tastes like a mixture of wheat, oat, and other grains.

It’s also super messy and chalky and the shake ends up being 80% foam after you mix it.

This protein powder is very expensive.  I definitely wouldn’t ever buy it again.

They don’t offer any type of money back or satisfaction guarantee either.

I saw some bad side effects while taking this protein powder.

I didn’t feel well at all and had a stomachache and bloating.

The upsides of this protein powder are really only for vegans/vegetarians and if you have an allergy to dairy.

This protein is all plant based and is dairy free, soy free, and gluten free.

It uses raw, organic ingredients and includes a probiotic and enzyme blend.

There are 22 grams of protein per serving with 4g of BCAAs and a complete amino acid profile.

If you can somehow can past the awful taste, mess, and high price, it may be a potential option for vegans and those with allergies that are looking to build and repair some lean muscle.

In my opinion, it just completely misses the mark and think there are better options out there.

Detailed Opinion:

Ease of Use

This protein powder is a disaster to use.

The opening of the container is small and paired with the longer scoop handle, powder literally goes everywhere when you try and scoop it out.

It’s just so messy and the powder is very chalky and sticks to anything and everything.

The directions say to mix 1 level scoop with 10 oz of water or almond milk.

I used a shaker cup and it mixed up within about 10-20 seconds.

However, the whole shaker cup filled with foam.

I couldn’t believe how foamy it was.

It was a total pain because I had to scoop all the foam out first before I could even drink it.

Taste

I tried Garden Of Life Raw Organic Protein in the Vanilla Chai flavor.

This is hands-down one of the worst tasting protein powders I’ve ever tried.

It’s sweet and then has a very strong chai spice after taste.

Way too sweet and spicy, in my opinion.

The whole thing also tasted like liquefied grains.

There’s a wheat/oat taste to it that’s not good at all.

It’s really hard to choke this protein powder down and nothing seems to make it better.

Macro Analysis

Each level scoop of protein has 22 grams of protein, 2.5 grams of fat, and 2 grams of carbs.

These are pretty solid macros if you want to build and repair muscle, especially lean muscle since the grams of fat and carbs are very low.

It has 110 calories per serving, which is also nice and low for clean eating and lean mass.

Ingredient Drilldown

There’s a combination of organic grains, seeds, and legumes that make up the Raw Organic Protein Blend in Garden Of Life Raw Organic Protein.

The protein sources include: Organic Pea Protein, Organic Sprouted Brown Rice, Organic Amaranth Sprout, Organic Buckwheat Sprout, Organic Millet Sprout, Organic Cracked Wall Chlorella, Organic Quinoa Sprout, Organic Chia Seed Sprout, Organic Garbanzo Bean Sprout, Organic Lentil Sprout, Organic Adzuki Bean Sprout, Organic Flax Seed Sprout, Organic Sunflower Seed Sprout, Organic Pumpkin Seed Sprout, Organic Sesame Seed Sprout.

The blend of plant proteins equates to a complete protein profile and includes all essential amino acids.

The plant proteins are all certified vegan, USDA organic, NON-GMO verified, and raw.

The benefit of having raw whole food is because processing and heat can denature the proteins.

It’s also free of gluten, soy, dairy, added sugars, artificial flavors, and sweeteners.

There are 4 grams of branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), which may help repair and build muscles after working out.

There are a number of vitamins and minerals including: Vitamins A, D, K, C, E, Calcium, Zinc, Manganese, Iron, Magnesium, Selenium, and Molybdenum.

It adds a probiotic and digestive enzyme blend to help promote digestion and absorption.

Raw Probiotic & Enzyme Blend:  Lipase, protease, apsergillopepsin, beta-glucanase, cellulase, bromelain, phytase, lactase, papain, peptidase, pectinase, hermicellulase, xylanase, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus bulgaricus (3 Billion CFU).

Side Effects

I didn’t feel well at all after taking this protein powder.

I got a stomachache and was bloated.

I also lost my appetite.

The taste of this protein powder was just disgusting to me.

The stomachache and bloating may be due to some potential allergies I have to the grains used in the formula.

So just make sure you look at the list of ingredients before buying it if you have some sensitivities or allergies.

But regardless, the taste was still appalling.

On the plus side, if you can get past the taste somehow, it’s dairy free, soy free, gluten free, and safe for vegans.

Best Uses

This protein powder is best used for those who want to maintain, build, and repair lean muscle.

There are 22 grams of protein in every scoop that may help you reach your personal goals.

In particular, this protein powder is best suited for those who are vegan or have allergies/sensitivity to soy or dairy.

Price/Value

Garden Of Life Raw Organic Protein costs $37.59 for a 20.5 oz (1lb 4.5oz) container.  Factoring out the total amount of protein, it works out to 8.54 cents per gram of protein.

This is more expensive than your average protein powder.

Also, there are only 20 servings per container, so you don’t even get a month’s worth of protein.

This is definitely a cleaner, more natural product and you pay the price for it, especially since all of the proteins are organic.

If you’re vegan or have allergies to dairy or soy, I think it can be considered a good value for the price.

However, I don’t think it’s a good value for the average protein powder user.

Guarantee

I couldn’t find a definite satisfaction or money back guarantee on the Garden of Life website.

However, they do have a 30-day return policy.

You can return the item within 30 days of purchase and all refunds are applied to the original method of payment.

To return an item, you’ll need to contact their Customer Service department and provide them with your name, order number, and the item number of the product you want to return.
