Overall Opinion:
Isopure Protein Powder has some very good things about it, but unfortunately it falls flat in certain areas as well.
It may be ok for gaining some mass, but the sodium (more on this in a second) prevented it from being lean mass.
Each serving contains 50 grams of whey protein isolate. That’s a lot compared to other protein powders and is a great source of protein.
Further, each serving only has 1 gram of fat ad 3 grams of carbs—both very low amounts by most standards.
Another good thing, Isopure mixes really easily.
You really don’t even need a shaker or blender, it mixes nicely with just a plain old spoon.
On the downside, this protein powder has a TON of sodium in it.
480 milligrams per serving to be exact—which is way too much for our liking.
Another thing we didn’t like was the taste.
We tried the Dutch Chocolate flavor and it was much too sweet in our opinion. The aftertaste wasn’t great either.
So overall, we gave Isopure 3 out of 5 stars which makes it a middle-of-the-road protein powder in our opinion.
The protein, fat and carb amounts are great and the protein source is excellent. But the sodium content is too high and the taste leaves a lot to be desired.
Detailed Opinion:
Ease of Use
Isopure Protein Powder mixes extremely easily.
We were able to just throw it in a glass with some water, and use a spoon to mix it up.
With just a spoon, we blended it into a nice, relatively thick shake in just a few seconds.
Taste
We tried this Isopure Protein Powder in Dutch Chocolate and weren’t very big fans of the taste.
It’s extremely sweet tasting, which some people may like, but we didn’t.
It also leaves an unpleasant aftertaste that reminds us of “old school” protein powders.
Taste is obviously very subjective, but we didn’t prefer this one at all!
Macro Analysis
As for the macros, each serving contains 50 grams of protein, 1 gram of fat and 3 grams of carbs.
The 50 grams of protein is a lot, which is great for those trying to really supercharge their muscle building or trying to bulk up.
The fat and carb content is very low—which is a good thing and something we like to see.
Each serving rounds out to 220 calories, which is a bit higher than your average protein powder, but nothing too crazy.
Overall, this is a pretty good macro combination.
Ingredient Drilldown
Isopure Low Carb Protein Powder has some things we like about their ingredients, and some things we don’t.
The protein source consists solely of whey protein isolate, which is very high quality.
It’s also got a generic vitamin and mineral blend which may be of use for someone using this as a meal replacement but won’t appeal much to those doing hardcore training.
It also has some added glutamine in there.
The big thing we didn’t like in the ingredients was the extremely high sodium content.
That came in at a whopping 480 mg per serving. That’s quite a bit more than many other protein powders!
Side Effects
I did notice a tiny bit of stomach pain about 30-45 minutes after taking IsoPure. It wasn’t the worst I’ve experienced, but there was definitely some uncomfortableness.
Best Uses
After using this for awhile, we’d say it’s best used for those look to build up some serious muscle and bulk up.
The 50 grams of protein per serving is a lot, and bodes well for those looking to really up their protein intake to bulk up.
A few servings a day would add quite a bit of protein for even the most serious of trainers.
Price/Value
Isopure Protein Powder costs $18.57 for a 1 pound container. That works out to about 5.30 cents per gram of protein, which is about middle of the road as far as what most protein powders cost.
Guarantee
We couldn’t find a guarantee on their website but you might be able to get a refund if you but it at Amazon or certain retailers.
