Overall Opinion:

Orgain Protein Powder is a good protein powder that has a lot of really good qualities to it– especially if you have any trouble with dairy/whey.

This particular protein powder is a great option for those looking to tone/shape up or lose weight.

It has 21 grams of plant-based protein per 2 scoops, including pea, brown rice, chia seeds, and hemp protein.

Some people shy away from plant-based protein but it can still be highly effective when trying to reach your goals and contain a great deal of protein.

I really like Orgain’s powder because it uses a protein “power blend” so you’re not missing out on vital essential amino acids that normally come along with animal based protein such as whey and casein.

Another perk is that plant-based protein powders are generally very easily digested and absorbed in the body, which can also lead to fewer or no side effects in people.

This protein powder is super allergy friendly and contains NO dairy, soy, gluten, lactose, or even GMOs.

It also uses organic ingredients, which is a definite perk and something you don’t normally see in your everyday protein powder.

It’s also low in calories, fat, sugar, and net carbs, making it a great tool for those watching their caloric intake or trying to lose weight.

It also has 5 grams of fiber per serving, which may also aid in weight loss because fiber keeps you feeling fuller for longer.

I also like this protein powder because it’s a great option for vegetarians, vegans, and those with allergies.

However, it can still be effective for athletes, weight management/weight loss, and toning up.

There’s only one real downside to this product.

It’s not the most ideal protein powder out there if you’re really looking to bulk up and build muscle.

If that were the goal, you’d probably want a higher protein count and potentially an animal-based protein such as whey, which is a complete protein and provides all 9 essential amino acids.

However, it still packs a pretty powerful “plant protein punch” if you’re looking to tone or shape up.

So overall, we gave Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Powder 4 out of 5 stars, making it an above average protein powder in our opinion.

Detailed Opinion:

Ease of Use

Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Powder mixes relatively easily depending on how you go about it.

This is definitely NOT a powder you can whip up with just a spoon.

I tried the good ol’ spoon method and it was incredibly chunky.

I basically had to use the spoon to eat it (not drink it).

The directions say to mix 2 scoops in 8-10 fluid ounces of water, almond milk, coconut milk, or your preference and shake in a blender or shaker cup.

With that method, it came out to a nice, thick consistency.

Taste

We tried Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Powder in the sweet vanilla bean flavor.

It’s also offered in a creamy chocolate fudge flavor.

As the name suggests, it’s definitely sweet.

This could be good and bad for some people, depending on your preference.

I was really happy to finally taste a protein powder that didn’t remind me of the “old school” protein powders.

Even when mixed with water, the taste really wasn’t that bad (just sweet).

I liked the taste when I mixed it with almond milk and the directions suggest using coconut milk too.

It was a little bit gritty and the aftertaste reminded me of rice or oatmeal.

However, all in all, the taste wasn’t bad at all, especially if you tend to like sweeter drinks.

Macro Analysis

As for the macros, each serving contains 21 grams of protein, 3.5 grams of fat, and 15 grams of carbs.

21 grams of protein isn’t incredibly high, especially for someone looking to really pack on some muscle.

However, this protein amount is suitable for those looking to tone or shape up or lose weight.

This protein powder doesn’t contain a ton of fat or calories, making it a great option for weight loss.

The carb count is 15 grams, which definitely is higher than most but it contains fiber and sugar alcohol.

Once you factor those in, it brings it down to 5 grams of net carbs.

The added fiber may also help you feel fuller for longing, also potentially aiding in weight loss.

Overall, this is a good macro combination for those looking to lose weight or tone up.

Ingredient Drilldown

The protein source in Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Powder consists of organic pea protein, organic brown rice protein, organic chia seed, and organic hemp protein.

Plant based proteins can get a bad rap in the protein world because they aren’t are complete proteins like whey and other animal based proteins.

However, they can still be really effective and help you reach your goals.

This is especially true for products like Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Powder because they combine many plant based proteins into a “power blend” so you don’t miss out on essential amino acids.

It’s also one of the most allergy friendly protein powders I’ve seen.

It’s FREE of dairy, soy, gluten, and lactose.

It’s also non-GMO.

The ingredients don’t contain a bunch of “junk” or artificial colors and flavors.

There isn’t any added sugar and it uses organic stevia and monkfruit extract as the sweetening agents.

Another total perk is that this product is organic.

You don’t see that very often with traditional protein powders.

Side Effects

I experienced some stomach pain and belly bloating about 20 – 30 minutes after taking this protein powder.

It wasn’t the worst thing ever but it was uncomfortable and maybe something to keep in mind (especially if you’re sensitive to rice, chia, or hemp seeds).

This is a great option for those with allergies to soy, dairy, gluten, and lactose and plant based proteins are generally very easily digested and absorbed in the body (which can mean less digestive upset and potential side effects!)

Best Uses

After using this product for a while, we’d say it’s best used for those looking to tone up or lose weight.

21 grams of protein is a decent amount but is on the lighter side of protein powders.

So, I wouldn’t recommend this particular product if you were looking to build muscle or really bulk up.

This is a great option for those watching their caloric intake or looking to lose weight because it’s lower in calories and fat and has 5grams of fiber to help keep you full (in addition to the plant protein).

Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Powder is also suitable for those looking to increase their protein level enough to tone up.

Price/Value

Orgain Organic Plant Based Protein Powder costs $39.99 for a 2.03-pound container.  That works out to about 9.5 cents per gram of protein (and even more when you tack on $7.95 shipping), which is above average for a protein powder.

Guarantee

Another major perk of this protein powder is that Orgain offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

They don’t even require a time period, it’s just if at any time you aren’t completely satisfied with the product then you can get a refund (minus shipping and handling).

Kudos for this guarantee!

Not all protein powder companies offer a guarantee like this so I was definitely excited to see it.
