Overall Opinion:

Jarrow Formulas Whey Protein, in our opinion, is just an average protein powder.

This protein powder is a good option for those looking to lose weight and/or tone up.

It has 17 grams of protein per scoop and contains whey protein concentrate.

It’s also low in calories, fat, and carbohydrates, making it a great tool for those counting calories or trying to lose weight.

Jarrow Formulas also went the extra mile and made sure there wasn’t a lot of “junk” added to this protein powder.

It’s free of artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors, and added hormones (rBST).

It’s also free of gluten, wheat, nuts, fish, and egg.

However, it does contain milk and soy.

It mixes up fairly easily and the taste is about average, nothing to write home about.

On the downside, this protein powder probably wouldn’t be the best if you were really looking to supercharge your workout and gain the most mass or muscle.

It also gave us some stomach pain and bloating after drinking it.

So overall, we gave Jarrow Formulas Whey Protein 3 out of 5 stars, making it an average protein powder in our opinion.

Detailed Opinion:

Ease of Use

Jarrow Formulas Whey Protein mixes relatively easily.

We were able to mix it with 4oz – 6oz of water (and also almond milk) with just a spoon.

I wouldn’t say it blended entirely with a spoon because there were definitely still some smaller chunks.

I’d recommend using a shaker or a blender to get a nice, smooth consistency.

But if you aren’t picky with a few smaller chunks, then a good old spoon will do just fine.

Taste

We tried Jarrow Formulas Whey Protein in the French Vanilla flavor.

It’s also offered in Berry, Chocolate, and Unflavored.

The French Vanilla flavor wasn’t overly sweet and wasn’t bitter.

Even when we mixed it with just water, the taste wasn’t too bad.

I definitely preferred the taste when I mixed it with unsweetened almond milk (but that’s just my preference).

It does leave that unfortunate aftertaste that a lot of “old school” protein powders have.

It wasn’t the worst tasting protein powder but it definitely could’ve been better!

Macro Analysis

As for the macros, each serving contains 17 grams of protein, 1 gram of fat and 6 grams of carbs.

The 17 grams of protein isn’t a ton, especially for someone looking to really bulk up or build muscle.

However, this protein amount is suitable for weight loss and those looking to tone or shape up.

The carb and fat content is really low, which is a huge plus and also perfect for those wanting to lose weight.

Each serving is only 105 calories, which is fantastic for those counting calories because it’s relatively low.

Overall, this is a pretty good macro combination for those looking to lose weight or tone up.

Ingredient Drilldown

The protein source in Jarrow Formulas Whey Protein consists solely of 100% whey protein concentrate from milk.

It’s ultra-filtered to be low in lactose and carbohydrates.

The whey is also from cows not treated with growth hormone rBST.

This powder consists of 4 grams of BCAAs (branched chain amino acids) including Isoleucine, Leucine and Valine.

It’s also rich in essential and non-essential amino acids such as glutamine.

Props to Jarrow Formulas for making a protein powder that doesn’t add a lot of “junk” to the formula.

It doesn’t contain any artificial flavors, sweeteners, or colors.

And it doesn’t have wheat, gluten, egg, fish/shellfish, or peanuts/tree nuts.

It does contain milk and soy, so keep that in mind!

Side Effects

I noticed some stomach pain and bloating about 20-30 minutes after taking this protein powder.

It wasn’t horrendous but it definitely was uncomfortable and something to keep in mind.

Best Uses

After using this for a while, we’d say it’s best used for those looking to lose weight or tone up.

17 grams of protein is on the lighter side of protein powders so I wouldn’t say this would be the best if you were looking to build muscle or really bulk up.

Since it’s low in calories and fat, this makes it ideal for those watching or limiting their daily caloric intake and looking to lose weight.

It’s also suitable for those looking to up their protein intake enough to tone up.

Price/Value

Jarrow Formulas Whey Protein costs $20.68 for a 1 pound container.  That works out to about 7.10 cents per gram of protein, which is about middle of the road as far as what most protein powders cost.

Guarantee

Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a guarantee on their website but you might be able to get a refund if you buy it online at Amazon or at certain retailers.
