    Overall Opinion:

I give Nutiva Hemp Protein 3.5 out of 5 stars.

The more I used and researched this protein, the more impressed I get!

It’s a really fantastic source of clean, plant-based protein and fiber.

This product is literally just organic hemp protein.  It’s incredibly natural and has zero additives or preservatives.  It’s so natural that you have to refrigerate it once you open it.

This protein is SO diverse and can fit so many individual diets, lifestyles, and unique health and fitness goals like gaining lean muscle mass, losing weight, toning up, or a combination.

It’s a high quality protein that contains 15g of protein in every serving (3 tablespoons).

Plant-based proteins usually get a bad rap but this one is more of a superfood than an actual protein shake.

It has a complete amino acid profile of all 20 aminos, including the 9 essential aminos, and 3 Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs).

There are 8 grams of fiber per serving, which is incredible.

Most protein powders and even plant-based ones have little to no fiber.

This is discouraging because fiber is so crucial to our health.

The majority of us don’t get nearly enough fiber each day, which leads to a heap of problems.

But this protein gives you 32% of your daily-recommended amount in just one serving!

Hemp is definitely a superfood because it packs protein, fiber, essential fatty acids, magnesium, iron, and zinc.

Hemp protein offers up a number of health benefits such as boosting metabolism, optimizing energy, reducing inflammation, aiding in digestion, increasing lean body mass, reducing fat mass, and repairing and fueling muscle cells.

It’s also super hypoallergenic, vegan, and affordable.

It proved to be incredibly versatile and I was able to use in a number of different ways such as a nutrition packed morning smoothie, a recovery drink after workouts, and as a healthy shake in between meals.

It’s a little different compared to your average protein powder but if you give it a chance I think you’ll love it.

    Detailed Opinion:

    Ease of Use

This hemp protein is relatively easy to use.

The directions say to blend 2-4 tablespoons of Hemp Protein with 8 oz milk (almond milk is ideal) and a ripe banana.

I like things quick and easy so I usually skipped the banana and just used a shaker cup and some almond milk.

It mixes up surprisingly well and has a very minimal gritty texture.

Plant-based and vegan proteins are incredibly gritty and chalky.

But this one wasn’t bad at all.

This protein is pretty unappealing as is since it’s literally just hemp protein.

But you’re intended to mix it with milk (almond milk is recommended) and a ripe banana.

When I mixed it with just almond milk, it actually wasn’t bad.

It has a very subtle veggie taste it but can easily be masked with flavored milk or add ins like fruit.

I used it in a variety of different ways.

I would fill a shaker cup with chocolate or vanilla almond milk and blend the hemp in and it tasted great.

I also combined it with a chocolate plant-based protein powder and chocolate almond milk and it was fantastic!

The last method was in my morning smoothie.  I added in 1 serving of hemp protein along with a variety of veggies, fruit, chia seeds, flax seeds, almond milk or juice, and ginger root.  It ended up being a delicious, nutrient packed smoothie!

    Macro Analysis

The macros for 1 serving (3 Tbsp) of this hemp protein are:  15 grams of protein, 3 grams of fat (Polyunsaturated Fat), and 9 grams of carbohydrates.

Since this protein has a whopping 8g fiber, it takes the net carbs down to 1 gram!

So this is a super low carb protein.

There’s only 90 calories per serving.

    Ingredient Drilldown

This protein packs a whole lot of good in it for only having 1 single ingredient.

Organic hemp protein is the sole ingredient and protein source in this supplement.

It’s just hemp, no additives whatsoever.

There are a ton of benefits of using this hemp protein.

It’s a high quality protein and organic superfood all in one.

Hemp protein has a complete amino acid profile, which means it contains all 20 amino acids, including the 9 essential aminos, and all 3 Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs).

It has a similar amino acid profile to soy protein and egg white protein and that’s why it’s considered a high-quality protein.

One serving contains 15 grams of raw organic protein, which is 30% of your daily value (DV).

It has 40% DV of Iron, 60% DV of Magnesium, and 25% DV of Zinc, all of which are critical for optimizing energy, especially on a plant-based diet.

Another bonus is that it has good-for-you essential fatty acids (2g per serving).

These fatty acids are important for lean body mass, heart health, and brain function.

Hemp is naturally anti-inflammatory due to its chlorophyll content, which helps alkalinize your body and protect against harmful inflammation.

This protein supplement is also extremely high in fiber.

The vast majority of protein powders (and even plant-based proteins) have ZERO or very little fiber included.

This hemp protein has a whopping 8 grams of fiber (32% DV) in every serving.

Fiber is crucial for your body and helps maintain a healthy weight, aids in digestion, regulates blood sugar, protects your heart, and facilitates muscle growth.

You workout and weight lift in order to overload your muscles, which lead to small tears in the muscle fibers.

The muscle fibers are repaired and your body releases growth hormones like human growth hormone and testosterone that trigger an increase in muscle mass and subsequent strength.

This entire process results in waste byproducts of muscle production.

When you eat fiber, it passes through your GI system and carries this metabolic waste and any excess nutrients to where it can be excreted out of the body.

If this waste enters your intestines and fiber isn’t present, the body may reabsorb some of this nasty waste.

This causes stress on the body and can lower your ability to repair and grow muscle.

And a buildup of this waste can lead to higher fat mass and poor overall health.

So moral of the story, eat more fiber in order to keep your body efficient at muscle growth.

    Side Effects

Side effects were completely nonexistent with this protein powder.

I honestly felt so great while taking it.

The beauty of this supplement is that 66% of the hemp protein is edestin (a bioactive globulin protein) that’s super easy for the body to digest.

    It’s a grain-free, nut-free, gluten-free, non-GMO, certified organic vegan protein.

It also comes in a BPA free container and 1% of sales go to sustainable agriculture.

There are no allergens because it’s literally just organic hemp protein and is made without hexane, dairy, lactose, or sweeteners.

    Best Uses

This protein supplement can be used in a number of great ways.

It’s great for toning up and/or weight loss because it boosts metabolism, is energizing, low-carb, high in fiber, and is a lean source of protein.

It’s perfect for vegetarian or vegan diets because it’s free from animal products and by-products.

If you have any food allergies, this is an awesome choice because it’s extremely hypoallergenic.

This even works well if you’re packing on muscle.  We forget how important fiber is for muscle growth.

It’s basically a clean fiber + protein boost for just about anyone!

Nutiva Hemp Protein costs $16.99 for a 16 oz container, which has 15 servings.

It works out to 7.5 cents per gram of protein.

I’m actually impressed with the price.  It’s pretty much average compared to other protein powders.

Usually plant based or vegan protein powders are at a premium because they’re a specialty item.

So this protein ends up being a great value for the price.

Nutiva offers a 30-day money back guarantee for their products.
