Overall Opinion:

I give Designer Protein Sustained Energy 4 out of 5 stars because there are a lot of great things that I like about this particular protein powder.

The company seems to go above and beyond normal expectations and I really appreciate the effort they put into making this product.

It uses a blend of several proteins including:  GMO-Free Soy Protein Isolate, GMO-Free & rBGH-Free Whey Protein Concentrate, Calcium Caseinate, and GMO-free & rBGH-Free Whey Protein Isolate.

There’s no blend that contains hidden ingredients, so I really like that it’s straightforward with the ingredients.

It uses a combination of proteins to deliver a steady rate of amino acids to help produce sustained and balanced energy.

Each of these proteins is absorbed at different rates, which means the body is constantly getting these aminos.

It has a solid amino acid profile that contains branched chain amino acids and essential amino acids.

These can really help with muscle growth and recovery.

It also has 23 vitamins and minerals, which may also help you with your overall health and fitness goals.

There are 5 grams of prebiotic fiber included to help ward off hunger.

I would normally take this protein shake right after working out and I felt great.

I felt replenished, it gave me a decent energy boost, and it took me longer to feel hungry again.

It also didn’t give me any negative side effects such as bloating or feeling sluggish.

I felt great the whole time I was taking this protein powder.

I really appreciate that the company doesn’t use any artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors or preservatives.

It’s also free of artificial growth hormones and antibiotics.

Some other perks are that it’s certified gluten-free, kosher, and non-GMO.

I do wish it tasted better because the flavor is definitely rough.

Luckily, chocolate almond milk helped mask the funky taste a little bit.

Overall, I think it’s a solid option for someone looking to lose weight and/or build and repair lean muscle.

Detailed Opinion:

Ease of Use

Designer Protein Sustained Energy is really easy to use.

It blends up quickly and doesn’t require a ton of effort.

Just mix 1 scoop with 5-8 ounces of cold water or milk (I opted for almond milk).

Shake in a shaker cup for about 10 seconds.

It didn’t require a blender, which I really like.

It ends up being very thick and somewhat gritty due to the inclusions.

Taste

I tried this protein powder in the Chocolate Velvet flavor.

To put it bluntly, it was really gross.

I definitely wasn’t a fan of this flavor.

This protein powder has the prebiotic fiber and vitamin and mineral blend and I feel like you can taste every bit of it.

The taste reminds me of the fiber supplement, Metamucil.

It has a bitter wheat taste to it and is so odd and not appetizing.

Just mixed with water, it’s pretty brutal.

I mixed it with chocolate almond milk and that helped the situation at least a little bit.

Macro Analysis

Breaking down the macros, this protein powder has 16 grams of protein, 2.5 grams of fat, and 8 grams of carbs.

This is based on 1 serving (30g), which is 1 level scoop.

It also only has 100 calories per serving.

I really like these macros for those who are looking to lose weight and/or gain lean muscle.

It’s very low calorie and low carb.

There are 5 grams of fiber, so that brings the net carbs down to only 3g.

Ingredient Drilldown

Designer Protein Sustained Energy has quite a few things going on in the ingredients.

First and foremost, let’s discuss the protein.

It has 16 grams of protein per scoop and uses a combination of 4 varying proteins.

These proteins include:  GMO-Free Soy Protein Isolate, GMO-Free & rBGH-Free Whey Protein Concentrate, Calcium Caseinate, GMO-free & rBGH-Free Whey Protein Isolate.

The reason for this combination or proteins is because each is digested and absorbed at different rates.

For instance, whey protein is very quickly absorbed in the body, whereas calcium caseinate and soy protein isolate are much slower absorbing.

This allows for a steady supply of essential amino acids that could lead to sustained and balanced energy.

It has a solid amino acid profile and contains aminos such as glutamic acid, aspartic acid, leucine, lysine, glycine, and tyrosine.

These help with muscle growth and recovery.

It also has 5g of prebiotic fiber, which helps you feel full for longer.

There are 23 vitamins and minerals included, which is a great addition for overall health and fitness.

Some of these include vitamins A, D, K, B6, B12, C, E, calcium, zinc, iodine, iron, folic acid, magnesium, biotin, phosphorus, and niacin.

No antibiotics, artificial growth hormones, caffeine, artificial energy stimulants, gluten, GMOs, artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors or preservatives are used in this product.

It’s also certified kosher and made in the USA.

Side Effects

I didn’t notice any negative side effects while I was taking Designer Protein Sustained Energy.

This definitely is a positive thing for me.

I felt good while taking it and I could tell I felt full for longer but without feeling bloated.

Keep in mind that this product contains milk and soy, for those of you that are sensitive or allergic.

Best Uses

I think this protein powder is best used for those wanting to build and repair muscle, especially lean muscle mass.

I also think it’s a great option for those looking to lose or maintain a healthy weight.

There are 16 grams of protein and a solid amino acid profile.

It’s very low in calories, only 100 cals, and low in fat and carbs.

There are 5g of fiber and a vitamin and mineral blend to help stave of hunger and boost overall health.

Price/Value

The price of this protein powder is $12.99.

You get a 12-ounce container that includes 11 servings.

This works out to 7.38 cents per gram of protein.

Compared to other protein powders, this is right about average.

I think it’s a great price for the value and I’d definitely buy this product again in the future.

Next time, I’d opt for the 1.5 lb option ($17.99) so it’ll last a little longer.

Guarantee

I’m really disappointed because I couldn’t find a guarantee on the Designer Protein website.

It’s such a let down when a company can’t give their customers at least some sort of money back or satisfaction guarantee.

I really wish they offered one for this protein powder.
